Grape Variety:
100% Barbera
Tasting Note:
Barbera d'Alba di Principiano is a red wine that has its roots in the memory of the winery. In fact, Ferdinando's father, created the plant more than forty years ago in the main vineyard belonging to the winery: Boscareto. A natural amphitheater exposed to the sun, well ventilated, but sheltered. Not only rows of Nebbiolo, but also of Barbera, a versatile vine and harbinger of pleasant emotions. Last comment on the name: the wine is dedicated to Ferdinando's eldest daughter.
The vines are located 300 meters above sea level and have a perfect exposure to the South-West, the management in the vineyard does not involve the use of any chemical compound, but not even of any organic fertilizer, only copper and sulfur when necessary. Being as little present as possible to let the vine express itself at its best, in balance with its environment and the microorganisms that inhabit it. Low yields in the vineyard, selection of bunches that have a homogeneous degree of ripeness. Fermentation occurs spontaneously, without yeast inoculation, in steel and maceration lasts 20 days with manual pumping over and minimal punching down. No filtration or clarification. The refinement takes place for a period of 10 months in steel tanks. Once bottled, the wine has a minimal dose of sulfur.
