Avizoise Grand Cru Extra Brut 2013

Region:
Producer:
Grape Variety:
100% Chardonnay
Tasting Note:
Vintage cuvée made from two of the estate’s oldest Grand Cru parcels, Les Robards and La Voie D’Epernay, each with 50+ year old vines at the top of the hillside near the forest where there is the presence of clay soils over the limestone subsoil. L’Avizoise is the most powerful wine in the lineup. Avizoise is sourced from vines of up to 60-years-old in the clay-rich (argilo-calcaire) coteaux d'Avize vineyards of Les Robarts and Les Gros Yeux. The richer soils in these two neighbouring sites give a deeper, more powerful and textured expression of Avize than the Minéral. It does not disappoint although it is still tightly wound for now. Expect a super complex wine with floral and mixed citrus fruit leading to a long, pithy and chalky close. The wine is aged entirely in 600-litre demi-muid, and the fermentation in bottle is carried out under cork rather than crown seal.
Vinification:
Organic Farming 12 Hectars and produces 80,000 bottles annually
